PHIL
STONE For 27 years, Phil sat at the window of
the television sports world calling play-by-play of NFL
Football and Major League Baseball for NBC Sports. He was
the Voice of the Pac-10 for Prime Ticket Network after
hosting golf and doing almost every Olympic sport there is
for ESPN.
In 1994, Phil began wondering if there was anything more to
life than traveling the world. That same year a number of
his close friends introduced him to a church not far from
his home in San Diego. Six months later, he accepted Christ
as his Lord and Savior.
As Phil grew in his relationship with Christ, he wanted more
men to experience the joy and excitement of knowing the
Lord, so he organized and facilitated a men’s retreat for
his church. What started with 23 men heading up the mountain
to Forest Home, soon grew to 55 men and then 80 and finally
110. To say he has a passion for men and their relationship
with Jesus Christ would be an understatement. “There is
something uniquely beautiful about witnessing a man
surrendering his heart to Christ. For me, it’s much more
rewarding than watching Tiger win the U.S. Open even with a
broken leg,” mused Phil.
On fire for Christ and looking to accelerate his walk, Phil
met Dick Bridgman, who heads up CBMC in San Diego. They
became fast friends and together they launched a National
Day of Prayer Breakfast which Phil emceed for the first
4 years. He has emceed numerous other CBMC outreaches and
for the past 2 years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
has tapped Phil to emcee their annual Holiday Bowl Breakfast
attended by over 1,500 followers of Christ.
